Lamoni Police Chief, Jonathan Mullock, Decatur County Deputy, Bryson Durrow and Deputy John Horner visited the elementary today to meet the students and talk about safety expectations during an emergency. The students really enjoyed meeting them!

Leep Preschool held their annual Thanksgiving Feast on Monday, November 13th. The preschool provides the turkey, potatoes and gravy, and rolls, while the rest of the meal is potluck style. This year we had a wonderful turn-out. We had 18 preschoolers and their families come and share a meal together. As a sort-of welcome, the students put on a short performance of “Mr. Turkey,” and “Where is Thumpkin.” We hope everyone had some good conversation and a great . . .

On Thursday, October 12th, the 4 year olds in LEEP Preschool visited the Howell Pumpkin Patch. It was a rainy day, so they almost had the place to themselves and got to do things they wouldn't normally get to do on a field trip, such as the pumpkin cannon and the bathtub train. They didn't get completely poured on until lunch time when they ate their lunches at picnic tables under a tent and then loaded the bus in the rain. Even though it was raining, they had a great time!

On Wednesday, October 11th, the LEEP Preschool visited the Lamoni Fire Station and took a ride on the fire truck. Lamoni Fire Chief, Curt Shields talked with the students about fire safety.

On Friday, October 6th, all of Lamoni Elementary gathered in the SAFE Room to celebrate our September PRIDE Students of the Month. These are students who have been chose by teachers and staff that show P erseverance, R espect, I ntegrity, D iscipline and E nthusiasm. If you see any of these students, be sure and tell them "Congratulations!"

Mrs. Cray's 2nd/3rd grade class and both LEEP preschool classes got the opportunity to go to art together on Thursday, October 5th. The two classes worked together on an art project learning about primary colors. It was great to see the different age groups working and having fun together!

Lamoni Community School District participated in Iowa's Healthiest State Walk on Wednesday, October 4th. Students of all ages participated by walking with their classes throughout the day.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, kindergarten thru fifth graders participated in Bus Evacuation Drills to learn about bus safety and what to do in case of an emergency on the bus. A special thanks goes out to our bus drivers, Jon Hampton, Chris Coffelt and Mark Patience for driving the busses and talking with our students about how to stay safe!

On April 28th, Lamoni Elementary students gathered in the SAFE Room to honor our April PRIDE Students of the Month. PRIDE students show perseverance, respect, integrity, discipline and enthusiasm in all they do. If you see them, be sure and congratulate them!

Although many of us may see snow as a nuisance, Lamoni Elementary students love it! Students have taken full advantage of the fun weather building snowmen, making snow angels, sledding and coming up with fun games and activities to do in the snow!

Mort, the turtle, made another appearance to LEEP Preschool classrooms last week! Kayla Claussen from the Decatur Conservation brought Mort to visit preschool at the request of many students. Mort has been a popular visitor to Lamoni Elementary!

Students in Ms. Shyra's LEEP Preschool class just finished a unit on homes and shelters. Part of their study was to create a nest and bring it to the class to share.

Our 5th graders have worked hard, showed Demon PRIDE and been overall great students during the first quarter at Lamoni Elementary. This has earned them a Book-&-Bag day in their classroom. What is that you ask? It is a day to push all the desks to the side, lay on the floor while you do your school work, and enjoy some rewards (dodge ball, treats, and a movie). These students have really earned it!

On Friday, October 28th and Monday, October 31st, the Lamoni Elementary celebrated fall with fun Fall Classroom Parties. Classes played games, ate yummy treats and watched movies. The parties ended with a costume parade through the middle school and high school, so everyone could see their amazing costumes.

Students participated in Red Ribbon Week from October 31st to November 4th. The theme this year was One School, One Goal, Bully and Drug Free. Classes made posters for the SAFE Room, attended presentations with Decatur County Public Health and dressed up each day in support of being bully and drug free.

On October 28th, Lamoni Elementary students and staff celebrated our second PRIDE assembly and October PRIDE students of the month. Our first elementary PRIDE challenge was a tardy challenge to see which elementary class could have the least amount of tardies between the first day of school and October 28th. Second grade won with only 8 tardies!

October 9th thru October 15th was Fire Safety Week. Preschool, kindergarten and first grade took a trip to the fire station to learn about fire safety, ride the fire truck and meet some of Lamoni's firefighters.

Leep Preschool has been learning about fire safety. We were able to take a trip to the Lamoni fire station. Firefighters Curt Shields, Peter Vogel, and Anthony Cray taught us more about fire safety. We talked about making a plan with our parents for a safe spot to go once away from the fire, and we learned about what the trucks, tools, and gear are for. We got to spray the hose, ride on the truck, and put on the gear. We also traveled all the way to Cumming, Iowa, to visit . . .

On September 29th, Lamoni Elementary held their first PRIDE Assembly of the year to celebrate students, chosen by the teachers, who have shown school pride and good character during the month of September 2022. The entire elementary played games and came together in the SAFE Room to cheer on their fellow students. Congratulations to all the students who were selected!

World Kindness Day was on November 13th and to show their kindness, the 5th grade class snuck around the school and delivered "Secret Ninja Messages" of kindness all over the elementary building!
