Demon Happening 1/31
Welcome back, fellow readers! This past week in Lamoni High the bowling team faced off against the Mt. Ayr Raiders and the Lenox Tigers on Monday. The Demons bowled well but still came up short against their two opponents. The Demons have high hopes for their next bowling meet on Monday, January 30, where the Demons will face the Clarke Indians.
On Tuesday, the Lamoni Jazz Ensemble traveled to Simpson College in Indianola. The Jazz Ensemble placed second in the 1A portion of Jazz Fest. Several members of the ensemble won outstanding soloist, including Chase Potter, Jennifer Eason, Stephen Ansong, Omar Alcorta, and Jared Grove. After performing, the ensemble got the opportunity to work with one of the judges to see what can be adjusted or changed within their work. After this clinic and putting everything away, the Jazz Ensemble headed for home to finish off the remainder of the school day. On Saturday, the Lamoni Jazz Ensemble went back into action and traveled to Winterset for State Contest. At this contest, jazz bands from different areas in the state come to perform for three judges. After the performance the judges give the bands a rating. This contest is different than the average contest because the bands do not compete against each other. Lamoni received a II ranking and was just one point shy of receiving a I ranking, which is the best ranking you can receive. This gave the Lamoni Jazz Ensemble high hopes for the remainder of the jazz season.
Both Demon basketball teams were also in action this week. Last Saturday the men’s team continued their conference tournament run against the 5th seeded Mormon Trail Saints. After the first half the Demons found themselves in an eleven-point hole, but refused to give in. After cutting the lead to just six at the start of the fourth quarter, the Demons exploded for 26 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. In overtime, the smoking hot Demons outlasted the Saints to advance to the Bluegrass Conference semifinals. The Demons took 4th overall in the tournament, losing only to Ankeny Christian academy and Grandview Christian.
The women’s team also played multiple conference tournament games this week. In their first game of the week the Lady Demons traveled north to take on the Murray Mustangs at Faith Baptist College. Unfortunately the Demons were unable to saddle the Mustangs for the second time this year. After the loss, the Demons were set to take on Ankeny Christian Academy Eagles for 5th place in the conference. After the short bus ride to Mormon Trail schools, the Lady Demons took care of business on the road and plucked the Eagles, capturing a 5th place finish in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament.
