Demon Happening 1/9
Welcome back! We hope the students had a fun filled and/or relaxing winter break! Classes resumed on Tuesday, January 3rd, and you could tell which students were not prepared for the “early” mornings that the new semester brings.
The Demon basketball teams started the new semester with a basketball game on Tuesday. They competed against the Orient-Macksburg Bulldogs. The girls played to win, coming out with a strong defense, only letting the Bulldogs score 4 points in the third quarter. In the first quarter, the Demons scored 13 points. They proceeded to scored 25 in the third quarter. After playing with intensity, the Demons won 55-17.
The boys came out with the thirst for victory, winning by a solid 32 points. The Demons scored in the double digits range each quarter, with the least amount scored being 10 points in the second quarter. The Demons played hard the whole game and scored 24 points in the last quarter of the game. Chase Potter, senior at Lamoni, had this to say about the game against the Bulldogs: “We played our first full game of the season. We played well from the beginning to the end. We passed the ball very well, and just played basketball.”
On Friday the 6th of January the Demon basketball teams traveled to Murray, Iowa, to take on the Mustangs in a conference rivalry. The Demons took on the Mustangs earlier this season and neither the boys nor the girls were able to defeat the Mustangs. The Lady Demons found themselves in a tight game early, but were unable to keep pace with the Mustangs and eventually fell 55-30. The boy’s game did not turn out much better for our Demons. After an early burst, and a solid first quarter, the Demons struggled to saddle the Mustangs. The boys’ basketball team now holds a record of 7-3, with two losses to the Mustangs. The girls’ record now stands at 6-4 with two losses to Murray.
