Dan Boswell Retires After 21 Years
At 7:45 a.m. on December 22, 2016 the keys were passed on from Dan Boswell to Bob Kelly, the new Lamoni Community School District Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor. At around 2:30 p.m., with his hours in for the week, Dan quietly clocked out for the last time, discreetly leaving on his last day before retirement. While Dan may not seek the spotlight, his career is certainly worth celebrating.
In 1995, during the slow season for construction (winter), Dan Boswell took a job at Lamoni Community School District as the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor. He did so after a suggestion from his wife, who was a teacher in the district at the time. The job was meant to be temporary. Dan thought he would work in the position for a year or two and move on; that was twenty-one years ago.
Dan Boswell was not new to Lamoni Schools when he took over. Rather, he has a strong connection to the Lamoni Community School District, attending the school from elementary until his graduation. According to Dan, he did not think he would ever be back at Lamoni Schools after he walked through the doors of the old arched gymnasium for the last time as a student. Thankfully for all who work and go to Lamoni Schools, Dan took the position and stuck with it for twenty-one years.
During his employment with Lamoni Community Schools Dan has maintained the school grounds, overseeing the upkeep of all three buildings as well as overlooking the construction of the new Lamoni High School. He also directed the construction of the Safe Room. He has been committed to ensuring the school hums with students by providing a building that is itself humming in working order. We are excited for Dan in his retirement but he will be greatly missed.
