LCSD Legend Announces Retirement
If you have entered Lamoni Community Schools, or attended a sporting event, within the past 31 years you most likely have seen Mr. Ted Smith. Mr. Smith has been a pillar of the LCSD since he first started working in the district as the High School Math teacher in 1980. From this time forward, Mr. Smith has taught, encouraged, guided, advised, and touched the lives of hundreds of students. During his tenure at Lamoni, Mr. Smith has served in multiple capacities, including: HS Math Teacher, class sponsor, Athletic Director, Guidance Counselor, Dean of Students, Assistance Football Coach, Head HS Basketball Coach, as well as a mentor to students and staff alike.
During his time at LCSD, Mr. Smith did take a few short hiatuses from teaching to become the city administrator, to get married, and to work on his masters. Though he took these hiatuses, he still continued with his service to the community.
Although Mr. Smith states that he does not know what the future will bring for him in his retirement, and that it will be a big adjustment period, we are sure that if you need to find him you will probably be able to do so on the golf course. We wish Ted well in his retirement and future endeavors and hope that he will stop and visit on occasion.
