LCSD Spring Learning
Dear Parents / Guardians;
As we draw closer to the beginning of the second semester, we would like to revisit the learning options that we have available for our students in the Lamoni Community School District. At the beginning of this Global Pandemic and the 20-21 school year, we tried to establish a procedure that would meet the needs of all of our students in this “unknown” pandemic. We have learned more about the virus, it’s spread, and effective mitigation strategies that help minimize the spread of the coronavirus. We are also reminded of the fact that we are a social society and we learn best (in the majority of cases) in an in-person environment. Because of these factors Lamoni Community School District is implementing the following learning options for the start of the second semester, January 18, 2021.
ALL students will be expected to be back in the brick and mortar school setting unless they meet one of the following exceptions:
A. The student has a signed doctor’s note that prohibits their attendance in the brick and mortar setting due to a COVID-19 related situation.
B. The student chooses to attend the second semester of the academic year 20-21 (spring semester) in a virtual setting.
The student who ultimately follows exception A will need to adhere to the following guidelines:
A. A signed doctor’s note outlining the situation and the prohibition of attendance must be given to the school’s nurse (Donna Binning) prior to any participation in academic remote learning or excusal of attendance by the school district and then reviewed and approved by District Administration.
B. The student will be responsible for attending every class period or designated session, everyday of the week. If the student is not able to attend, the student will be counted absent unless a parent or guardian calls in to “excuse” the absence.
C. The student will not be allowed to “pick and choose” which classes they want to attend in-person (brick and mortar) or remotely. The student will be either all or none for the remote learning option.
D. The student will not be allowed to “switch” from remote learning to brick and mortar classes or vice-a-verse whenever they want to.
E. The student will only be allowed to switch when it is accompanied by a signed doctor’s note indicating that the student is allowed to return to the brick and mortar setting per the CDC and IDPH guidelines. This will be a minimum of 8 days and up to 14 days. During this time the student will be expected to follow guideline B (as stated above).
F. Students who follow exception A will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities as long as they adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the CDC, IDPH, Lamoni Community School System and the IHSAA / IGHSAU.
The student who ultimately follows exception B will need to adhere to the following guidelines:
A. Once the virtual option is selected, the student will NOT be able to switch to the brick and mortar or remote classes until the beginning of the 21-22 academic school year.
B. The student will ultimately be the one responsible for time management of academic progress and learning.
C. The student will check in, once a day, with the virtual teacher for progress monitoring or Q&A.
D. The student will not be allowed to “pick and choose” which classes they want to attend in-person (brick and mortar) or virtually. The student will be either all or none for the virtual option.
E. The student will not be allowed to “switch” from virtual learning to brick and mortar classes or vice-a-verse whenever they want to.
F. The student will not be allowed to “switch” from virtual learning to remote classes or vice-a-verse whenever they want to.
G. Students who follow exception B will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities as long as they adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the CDC, IDPH, Lamoni Community School System and the IHSAA / IGHSAU.
These choices do not include options in which the District, specific buildings, grade levels or even classrooms may need to move to a remote option due to positive student and staff COVID-19 cases for a temporary basis.
The Lamoni Community School District is committed to following the mission of this district: We are dedicated to preparing students to realize their fullest potential for success in each of their chosen endeavors.
The changes implemented above will help prepare each of our faculty, staff and students with the best opportunity to accomplish this mission. We thank you for your support as we continue to work together to meet the ever-changing demands of this global pandemic. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have or to discuss these options for your child(ren).
In ALL We Do, PRIDE!
