Iowa Ag Expo’s – Career Exploration Event
Lamoni FFA Members participated in the Iowa Ag Expo’s – Career Exploration Event that took place at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, IA from January 30th through February 1st. The event was hosted by the Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealers Association.
At the event, students had the opportunity to tour the Iowa Ag Expo, network with equipment dealer employees, and participate in a career discussion. After the career discussion, students were provided lunch. The afternoon students had as much time as they liked to visit additional areas of the expo. While there, members learned about the internships that many agriculture businesses offer, even to high school students. They saw the new technology of agriculture products that are on the market for farmers/producers. They visited with Hillco Technologies about a twine remover and Titan West Inc. on the new livestock head chute technology.
FFA Member, David Moreno quoted “I saw ideas of other companies and new inventions that are useful in where I work. There were different benefits with each apprenticeship. The CDL could be useful for driving dump trucks at the feed-yard so I can haul gravel for alleyways.” Members realized how to tie their SAE projects to real life skills and where to attain these skills.
The Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealers Association were delighted to have our students attend this unique opportunity.
