Sixth Grade Students Support Food Pantry

In keeping with those wishes, on MLK Day, Mrs. Roberts came into our sixth grade social studies and Leadership classes to talk about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, his legacy, and service to each other. As part of the discussion, Mr. Silver assigned a group project where students identified a problem or need in the community and tried to come up with a solution. The assignment established the planning phase with the hopes of getting grant funding to complete the projects, but some students went above and beyond.
Elliot Kinder and Emily Stretch wanted to raise money for the Food Pantry. Rather than just come up with a basic idea and framework for meeting the need, they followed through and completed their plan. They decided the best way they could raise money for the Food Pantry was by conducting a bake sale at the high school basketball game last Friday and at the Parks and Recreation tournament Saturday. Of their own volition, they baked the goods, set up for sale, conducted the sales, and gathered money. Special thanks goes out to Beth Kinder for letting the kids use her home and assisting with the baking.
Elliot and Emily succeeded in raising money for the Food Pantry. Through their efforts, they raised over $100! They plan on giving the money to the Food Pantry later this week. Ryleigh Long, Adellena Keddie, Logan Blackwood, and Kaycee Talley also assisted in selling the baked goods. The actions of these students reaffirms to me that we have really great students here at Lamoni Community Schools. Way to show great Demon PRIDE guys!
