Launch the media gallery 1 playerOn Wednesday September 25, 2023, seven members of the Lamoni FFA Chapter went to Knoxville, Iowa to attend the South Central District Soils Career Development Event (CDE). The goal of this CDE is to motivate students to gain knowledge on surface features, the soil profile, land capability and productivity, evaluation of land use and management practices, and suitability of soils for nonagricultural uses and to develop the ability to observe selected soil properties and to interpret and evaluate these properties for recommendations for land use.
FFA members from chapters in South Central Iowa spent the morning looking at soil depth, texture and structure in four soil pits and completing a soil knowledge test. After Several hours the team came in 7th place out of 25 teams,and they received a gold.The participating members were Macie Jeanes,Allyson Martin,Josie Hill,Ethan Elliott,Brock Binkley,Madison Davis and Naliyah Nary! The Members were really excited to participate in soils judging and they learned more about soil judging.
