Demon Happening (2/21)
Welcome back to Demon Happenings! After a busy week here at LHS there is a lot to catch up. To start the week off, on Tuesday the Varsity Academic Team traveled to Southeast Warren High School for a regional competition against thirteen other schools. The Demons struggled to find an answer against the tough competition and placed ninth overall. Later that day, the Demon bowling team made the long drive to Pleasant Hill for their District Meet. Tristen Kelsey, Cooper Ranney, and Omar Alcorta lead the way for the Demons, who enjoyed their time bowling this season, but came up short of a chance to compete at the State Bowling meet. Tuesday night, the Lady Demon Basketball Team was in action in Murray, Iowa, against the Mustangs for the fourth time this season. After losing the first three meetings of the season, the Lady Demons wanted nothing more than to capture the last laugh against their heated rivals. After the first half the Lady Demons found themselves in an eleven point deficit. Lead by Seniors Daryn Nowlin and Jennifer Eason, the Lady Demons, at one time, cut the lead to just two points, but eventually faltered. This loss marked the end of the Lady Demons’ season, finishing with an overall record of 15-7.
On Thursday night the men's basketball team was in action on the road against the Wayne Falcons. The Demons received the third seed in District 12, and were hopeful to finish off a good season with a solid District Tournament performance. After a slow start the Demons were left in a daze, down seventeen at half. The Demons came out ready to fire in the third quarter, but failed to convert many of their open opportunities. After the season’s final buzzer, the Demons walked into the locker room carrying a heavy loss. This season, however, was not all lost. This year the Demons managed their first winning season in two years, finishing 12-11.
