Projects Funded
On January 17th, Mrs. Roberts came into Mr. Silver's 6th and 9th grade classes for Martin Luther King Day. MLK Day is designated as a national day of service and as such, Mrs. Roberts, through Americorps, came in and taught about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The students were also asked to fill out a sheet detailing a community project they would like to do or see completed. Thanks to a generous donation from Americorps Outreach Grant, all of the 6th grade projects and the main project from Mr. Silver's Service Learning Class are being funded. The 6th grade projects included a time capsule, a bake sale for the Lamoni Food Pantry (matching donation), snow shovels so students can assist with scooping walks for the elderly, care packages for military members and people in assisted living, and cleaning up the parks. The Service Learning Class will be restoring the monkey bars in Central Park. Laura Jeanes also received new dodge balls, which she and the students will thoroughly enjoy. Thank you Americorps for the grant funding and thanks to Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Kessel, Kallie Kinney, and Nancy Hoffman for all of your help in getting this done! Great job students on your willingness to help the community and for displaying great Demon Pride!
