Sodexo Donates Pies to Local Food Pantry

The Lamoni PTO would like to thank Sodexo Food Services at Graceland University for their time and generosity this past holiday season.  Each year the Lamoni PTO hosts a holiday party for the middle school students.  Each student gets the opportunity to sign up for a craft or service project type of activity.  This year we had a group of ten students that chose to make "Take and Bake Pies".  Each student had the opportunity to sign up for the pies of their choice:  Cherry Almond, Peach Almond, Cinnamon Apple, or Dutch Apple Pies were among their favorites.  Once the pie choices were made by each student, General Manager, Jeremy O'Neal and Director of Operations, Michelle Eastin made sure that each student had all the tools and supplies they needed to make their pie making a success. 

Upon their arrival at Sodexo Food Services, the students were greeted by Michelle and Jeremy and given a short tour of the kitchen.  Before any pies could be made everyone had to adorn a hair net, apron, and go through proper hand washing before also adding sanitary gloves to their clean hands.  They got to experience how a professional kitchen must run to keep the product they produce safe and sanitary.  Once everyone had the proper gear on they were ready to go to their stations and get started on their pies.  The students were shown how to assemble the pies along with choices for different ways to top the pies.  What made this group so special was that Sodexo provided 100% of the pie making materials for this group of kids and gave each of them the opportunity to make a pie to donate to the local food pantry, as well as, a pie to take home for their family to share.  In total there were 24 pies made with 12 going directly to the pantry to be given out before Christmas.  The pies were delivered to our local pantry that very day.

We had a lot of fun getting this opportunity and look forward to taking a group out next year.  Sodexo has graciously offered to host another pie making experience which will enable more pies to be donated next year.  Thanks again to Sodexo for taking a day out of their holiday break to host, for donating the supplies for wonderful pies, and also for a great experience.
